An Unconventional Teacher

morning … yesterday was another CRAZY rush to petrol stations, causing massive jams all over. Someone SMART sent out a rumour thru SMS, and the whole chicken-panic community rushing to the next petrol station the very first minute! Any forwarding SMS or e-mail, i will DELETE them WITHOUT reading. So, i m not aware of rumours/scams … etc.

Anyway, my night tuition class cancelled due to the jam!! I was so tired that i slept about 9pm! Haha … and they said you cant sleep well when you are aging? Hehe …

Apparently, the rumour is NOT true and my colleagues(especially one loud-speaker) are talking about it.

To Kia Kee — hey buddy, sorry that i do not use facebook/friendster for long time now. I tried to send a comment on your blog but i dont know how la. Driving at 80km/h is GOOD … haha, i m still driving below 80km/h. As they said that is the optimum speed, i will try to drive faster la. Yes, the petrol hike will hv its domino-effects on many things. Everything will be more expensive, obviously. And many businessmen(they are crooks driving BIG CARS and owning few BIG properties) are taking advantage on these situation la. What can we do? Reduce our usage … change our lifestyle, if any? Arrrghhh … once we shifting to our new campus, i hv to cough-up extra rm200 for petrol itself! Sigh

On the positive note, there are opportunities in the difficult times. Look into KLSE … it is still moving down … and WAIT … pick a bottoming stock and you might be able to have huge gain once the dampening sentiments are over!! Hmm… easier said than done, obviously. Which counter(s) should we look into?

AirAsia, MAS — Genting and Resorts —- Parkson? Construction and Property counters?? Maybank, TA, ECM, OSK, AFFIN, AMMB or any banking counters? With so many babes with cheap values, you are lost with choices!! Unless you hv a million dollar, you could only choose ONE.

Even my SCOMI and RANHILL are at the bottom at the moment!

Morning … Mag told me that the price of bread went up. Not surpring, many more tau-kehs(businessmen) will revise up most of the prices of their items(to rake a huge profit, of coz). So, we will burn a hold in our pocket, buying the necessities. I dont use much of money for other items, anyway. I dont believe in consumerism, but you still need to eat BREAD, right? What can i plant by myself? Hmm … yes, perhaps MONEY tree! YOu know, we used to dream of such … put few coins into the soil and it will grow a tree with coins! Haha … errr … perhaps coins couldnt buy you anything these days. Should i try with 50RM notes, instead? Hmm … will tell you the results by the end of this month. Need to get the soil and fertiliser first. First thing first! Haha

Hey Kia Kee … dont curse the gov la. Poor Pak Lah who dont know much about Economics — the ministers still with HUGE imported cars(I saw Musa’s HUGE black Merz parked in Sutera last week) … we all are encouraged to walk/cycle to school/work la. Hmm …

Assembly this morning is boring and … errr … bad. Singing the old AULD LANG SYNC (or something like that, i never know how to spell this being the thrid yr here! Haha!) … really boring. It has been months i could NOT feel the music inside me — the melody and rhythm. As i could not feel myself, obviously i could not feel the music. Last week i tried to make a change … i tuned in 102.4(in KK la) the ERA channel while driving! Perhaps i m too tensed that i could not appreciate the current Malay songs.

To my eldest Sis, Catherine Teh : Happy Birthday, tho i know you dont really know what happiness is. I dont know where are you and the two kids, but wherever you are … hope you are doing well. Remembering you today, making me realised(and saddened) that you no longer with US. Whatever in this world is temporary, believe that. No amount of money could clear your hatred to people around you, especially your own root-family. So, whatever you are doing outside, hope you will be OK and do come back …

morning … just now Mag reminded me that i will be older by a year in few days time.

4. A new site to download songs — i still do not know how to download from limewire. Actually, while typing these lines, I m downloading Kylie’s X(the whole album). This site allow me to download many new albums but i could not search for many more albums in the 80s/90s where i like.

it is almost 2pm — just for the record, i didnt play well in the last 3 games of 9-pin tap as i hv difficulties with lane 1&2. I should hv experience enough but perhaps long time i did not compete. I was positioned at 5(of 48 players) after game 9. Oh yes, i played a perfect 300 for the game 9. That is my 2nd 300(9-pin, of coz) in a competition.

Photography

I hv developed greater interest in photography. As a starter, i wont be buying the expensive equipments. I met the group from Kinabalu Photography Club. They were in the ship to take some photographs — dont know if they are employed that night or invited as the official photographers. Anyway, i want to develop this interest as a hobby. I like pictures of landscape, or natural-beings. NOpe, not human. Human are NOT real when they are in pictures(listen to Family Potraits by Pink! Haha).

Yes, i will register for classes and follow the group with their ‘outing’ assignments. That will be very exciting!! My constarints will be my TIME. And i need to re-charge my energy level too(currently at low level la) …

Camera? That should be my first buy! Perhaps i could get one for myself as a gift for myself! Haha. Well, i seldom buy things for myself, u know.

Trading : Airasia 1.14 and Resorts 3.26 are moving down? When will be the time to BUY these stocks? Airasia is in news — price war with MAS. Resorts? Hmm … didnt read biz-news for a while now, so i dont know why. BUT, i know why KFC price has been appreciating!! Well, i have been taking KFC 3 times now since Jan2008. That is like 3 times more than last year! Haha

Ok ok … in the serious note, because of Dr M dropping a bombshell(frontpage headline of Sabah Times), many counters shaken by the hiccups! Arrghh … when is the war of words by our politicians will ever stop?! It is affecting the stability of the market!! KLCI will be down drastically today … will it ever recover? Or i think i should let all these bickerings to be over … be patient!!

SAM meeting

we have a lengthy SAM meeting as the CEO is worried for the batch of students. The exams is nearing and the students are still very weak. Some plain lazy. I m in stress too as i m one topic behind scheduled. Anyway, i hope to give a few extra classes during saturdays. Hope the students will attend … Oh yes, I MINUTED this meeting … i dislike all these paper-work but i m forced to.

morning … went to do the weekly wet-marketing, bringing Mag and Er to the nearby pasar. I guess few of the aunties’ stall could recognise me by now. "lau she" … they called me. Errr … sound weird being called ‘teacher’ by aunties whom i do not teach!! Even when my students address me that way, i feel ‘awkward’? Hmm … i should be used to it after 18 years of teaching? In fact i started teaching(giving tuition) since i was form 5/6, to my neighbours’ kids. BUt, officially i started teaching in Stamford in 1990, APRIL. Currently i m into my second year with Sinaran. I do like it here … maybe just that my passion for Maths is waning … or is it teaching?

Anyway, Happy ‘lau she’ day to me! Hehe

Comment : I do not disagree that academic results is VERY important to success. BUT, it all boils down to what you term SUCCESS as. If success = money, , status, power …. then, yes. MAYBE you might turn out to be a doctor/specialist or whatever highly-demanded desgination BUT even that does not guarantee money, status or power you crave for. You see, as human we will become GREEDIER. Your human/inhumane values changed as you ‘move-up’. From a naive you, you might turn into a cunning person, playing the tune according to the society, in the name of SUCCESS. Look how innocent/naive you were when you were 5 yrs old? Today you hv mastered the skills of giving excuses or blaming, no longer NATURAL(with your emotions), etc etc … what we all ADULTS condone. We hv ‘accepted’ lies or bribery as part of our lives(to certain extend). How many of us talk about HUMAN values these days? Hmm…

It is an interesting debate … i attended one by my students before … speaking about the pros/cons of EDUCATION TO THE ROAD OF SUCCESS. It is debatable. Because most PARENTS(subset of a society) seeing RESULTS is important, it makes ME very stupid if i say RESULTS is not everything. It is like we all going out and tell people that MONEY is not everything. It is important but not EVERYTHING? Tell that to anyone these days … MONEY is THE ONLY thing in their lives!! RESULTS is the ONLY THING in students lives!! When the students graduated, MONEY, STATUS and POWER take over! And the cycle continues …

To me EDUCATION is the most important part of growing up. Education starts when we were 2 yrs old … and it starts from home. Nothing to do with exams, it is all pleasure of learning. Learning process is education. Failing a Maths exams is education. Playing a volleyball game is education(winning or losing is part and parcel of playing) — how you take it and such. Can students stand up and tell me they ENJOY going to school as they find the subjects they are learning in school are interesting and widening their knowledge? I could continue to open-up a debate on how INCORRECT our society sees EDUCATION. Our students no longer enjoy learning in schools anymore(compares to 20/30 yrs ago!). Teachers NO LONGER enjoy teaching in schools. To them, it is like ‘no choice’, or it pays for my living or got longer holiday ma? Teachers stand up … tell me that you LOVE EDUCATION, you teach because you ENJOY seeing the youngsters learn some knowledge from you. You are proud and touched as today is teacher’s day — to recognise your teachings!! Arrghh … i m very doubtful about the sincerity of my UNEDUCATED society — students and teachers alike. At least i cant proudly say that i do enjoy what i m doing! Not many in working adults enjoy what they are doing, fyi. It is like not many students enjoy what they are learning from school. Or am i wrong? Hmm …

For your info, i was fascinated with Maths and Geography … so, i studied the universal Maths,  … and global world’s geography!! I do not really bother much about the syllabus(till one month before PMR/SPM/STPM exams). I studied for knowledge … while failing in my school’s exams! It is NOT wise, obviously. I played badly last night … 168, 200 and 154. The third game cost the team to lose two valuable points. Hmm … hope i could redeem myself next week. As we drew 2-2, the top team(KS’s) lost 0-4 to the Sukma’s youngsters. So, we should be climbing back to no 1 spot!! Yeah …

Graduation and IS Nite

I bought the ticket to KL for the training(SAM) … and i did not realise that it falls on the graduation day! I m off on thu night(after inti class 6pm, i will straight to airport to catch 8pm flight) and I will only be back on Sat evening! Leong told me as i m supposed to be in-charge of the rehearsal on Friday! This are mutually exclusive events — i cant be at two places at any one moment!! Hmm … guess i will miss the graduation this year, but IS NITE … yes, i could make it(PHEW!).

I m saddened by the fact that another 2 of the SC leaving the college. I will make it an issue at the end of this year during the review camp. We need to be serious to address this "problems" created by so-called good/responsible students who PLEDGED(we got swearing ceremony … Haha. They made the mockery of the whole system!) to serve the college … blah blah … WTFuck with them.

Ok OK … leave the issue. This students are going because they hv scholarships/furthering studies. On the surface, it seems to be VALID reasons. Well, WHY ARE THEY APPLYING TO BE VOTED TO BE SC WHEN THEY HAVE THE INTENTION TO APPLY FOR XXX AND LEAVE THE SCHOOL, ANYWAY?

That is the main CORE problems with our un-educated society this day. It is their parents wish, of coz. Who can be SO SO UNEDUCATED and IRRESPONSIBLE? ADULTS!! Yeah!! They are teaching their kids … it is OK to think of yourself, be selfish … afterall, hey, you got good SPM results, dont you need to think of yourself? Haha. I laughed cynically. Sad.

Morning … it is gloomy outside, going to rain with strong wind. We all read about the disaster in Burma, the typhoon … i do not read news, that is all the little knowledge i hv regarding the disaster. Also, the quake in China. Again, i hv no knowledge about it … just heard ’someone’ reporting it in staff room. Yup, i hv pulled myself AWAY from newspaper … it is not something new. I hv done that with great ’success’ that at a point, for few months i do not know what is happening in the whole world. I m confined to my own world, struggling to free myself from the ‘illussions’ i m facing. Many of things i m doing seems to be NOT real.

For example, the coming OPEN DAY — again, i drag to be "maths projects" for the sake of exibition to SHOW to some VIPs our knowledge in Maths? In real, NOTHING that they learned could be applied just yet. And me as a Maths graduate could not even come out with our own ideas on the so-called projects. Yes, it is a good exposure to SOME students. Most in the group do NOTHING, anyway. BUt in their testimonial, they want it to decorate with "OPEN DAY" Maths project … something like that, which making me feel ‘unreal’ and ‘frustrated’. Stupid society teaching our students to follow the trend — do nothing, get the name and shout it out!!

Anyway, i m diverted again … lets drop the open day issue. My mind is not functioning for a month or so now. I could see that i m struggling to find the vocab while writing. the flow simply not there to blog/write. Pardon me … i m in drugs. Hmmm …

The moment i enjoy most is the early morning(dusk) when i will wake up about 5am(no longer 4am … i dropped reading biz-news too) … sitting still staring at the ceiling/walls and observing my breath. I m trying to learn to meditate — it is hard. I couldnt still my mind as it floats to many things that stress me down. I can feel that i m tired — emotionally. But, once i m on the move, i know i hv plenty of things to do … my blog pages is a place/venue for me to speak to myself …. i m trying to be sane in the midst of this insanity.

I never understand the meaning of the lyrics, yet i can sing the whole song since i was … err 15? Hmm … wow! More than 20 yrs ago!

i m writing from the "Chart Room" of Sutera. Since i m here earlier(as i did not go back home, straight from INTI,Putatan), i m trying out here. It works!! Yeah … this is ‘yellowspot" — dont really know why they call it this way. Hmm … anyway, i m glad i could use the facility here. Hehe. And i m very comfortable here … so, i dont mind (sitting on the carpeted floor now) being here alone for hours!!  

Time for me to check on the market before off for my bowling game.
