An Unconventional Teacher

noon … i m here to see the paper 6(going on) … and also to save some data. Today is a public holiday in Sabah. Last year, i went to KDCA … but this year i prefer to be in ’silence’.

In the morning, i went to survey a place near Menggatal(people are itchy there — gatal! LOL) and view apartment costing rm140-150k. The build up is about 1014 sq ft. Not bad … It is about 15 minutes drive to the new campus … need to look around somemore before decide.

Ok … time to do my things.

3pm : Gamuda is the most actively stock traded today and reduced by about 60cent currently! WOW … what an impact of a news from Vietnam regarding the inflation? Hmm …

I m early today … waiting for my game. Dont really know if i could play as my butt is aching. We are still in positioin no1, but the 2nd is very close behind. Hey, it is nice to see some of my students studying here in Sutera’s Chart Room. Well, it is quiet and they hv wifi here too. Tmr is the STATS paper 6. Hope they will do well. These are ‘good’ students, of coz i mean their characters.

Anyway, as teachers we are always concern about students’ result. If the paper is ‘difficult’, we will worry that many do not fair well and we might question our own teaching!

p/s : Hey Justin, i didnt know u read my blog too? Haha. Yup, i played a 300 that night and everyone took notice as i jumped from no 12 to no5! Anyway, finally i m only positioned no12. That last three games 209, 188 and 220(considered bad) pulled me down. I could hv been in top 3 if i could play my normal 230 average(9-pin). It is ok … we do learn from defeats, right?

Tenaga — losing its energy and still finding its bottom. Currently trading at 7.00 range.

Recently, two fund-managers were reported to hv chosen Parkson as their top 5 picks. The ventures in China and Vietnam are interesting. Priced at 6.40 now.

Resorts is consodilating at 3.20-3.40 range for quite some time now. One of the many favourite.

Why Genting share price is moving down?! I dont know … currently it is trading below 6.00

4. A new site to download songs — i still do not know how to download from limewire. Actually, while typing these lines, I m downloading Kylie’s X(the whole album). This site allow me to download many new albums but i could not search for many more albums in the 80s/90s where i like.

Airasia (priced at 1.01 currently) stock will be oversold soon … fuel price up and competition from MAS. How Tony going to deal with this? *stalk*

MAS share price has been on the downtrend too. Trading at 3.50 at the moment.

I bought Scomi at 0.985 and thinking that it is recovering. Yesterday it dropped to 0.93 level. What have I done incorrectly here? Has it got anything to do with Badawi?

This is Scomimr chart for a year … currently dropped back to 0.60 level. Not to my liking but still stalking it, anyway. The mother company Scomi is more interesting, I think.

I cant really understand WHY tradewinds corp is being badly bashed. It is trading at its y-o-y low of 0.65 at the moment.

This is the plantation stock that i m looking into. It is sabah-based. Its IPO was valued at 2.80 and currently at an attractive price of 3.04, after being pushed to the low of 2.60.

Kwantas is another Sabah-based plantation stock that i m looking into. Consolidating at 3.90-4.20 range, it might have a huge push if the CPO continues to appreciate. I dont know …

Liondiv — bought it when it was high at 1.81. Currently trading at 1.35 but should recover in a few months time, i hope.

Stalking Ahmad Zaki as it is moving down to 0.90 level … when will it bottoming?

it is almost 2pm — just for the record, i didnt play well in the last 3 games of 9-pin tap as i hv difficulties with lane 1&2. I should hv experience enough but perhaps long time i did not compete. I was positioned at 5(of 48 players) after game 9. Oh yes, i played a perfect 300 for the game 9. That is my 2nd 300(9-pin, of coz) in a competition.

Will take a break from bowling too. Enough.

noon — i squad with Guslin last night. I did not ‘yue’ him but happened that he is there. Anyway, gllad to hv a friend to play with. I was tired after INTI class from 4 to 6pm. But, that is never my excuse.

I played extremely well to qualify for tomorrow’s final. Those in KK and reading this can watch me play vs many top sabah bowlers there. I m positioned no 5 currently(of 80+ squadded so far). Most importantly is to qualify. I did with total pins of 931 + 40(hcps) over 4 games.

10-pins : 206 and 192 and 9-pin-tap 265 and 268. Fantastic.

Hope i could hold myself in a piece and do well tmr night. I will just play myself — target to be in top 10, again.

Pengumuman keluar dari UMNO

Hari ini, Mei 19, 2008 saya mengumumkan keputusan saya untuk keluar daripada UMNO. Isteri saya turut bersama.

Keputusan ini dibuat kerana UMNO yang ada sekarang bukan lagi UMNO yang ditubuh 62 tahun dahulu yang berjuang untuk bangsa Melayu, Agama Islam dan Negara Malaysia (Malaya); UMNO yang menggagalkan Malayan Union, memperjuangkan kemerdekaan Malaya dan Malaysia dan membangunkan Malaysia sehingga menjadi Negara yang termaju di antara Negara membangun di dunia.

UMNO yang ada sekarang hanya wujud untuk menyokong Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, keluarganya dan tindakan serta dasar yang tidak secocok dengan kepentingan bangsa, agama dan negara.

Kepimpinan Dato Seri Abdullah jelas membawa kekalahan dan bencana kepada Barisan Nasional, UMNO, MCA, MIC, Gerakan dan PPP. Kemenangan UMNO di Sabah dan BN di Sarawak bukan kerana kepimpinan Dato Seri Abdullah.

Saya akan jelas satu persatu dasar-dasar dan tindakan Dato Seri Abdullah yang menjadikan Kerajaan pimpinannya dan parti BN dibenci oleh ahli-ahli parti komponen sendiri.

Walaupun sebelum perisytiharan ini saya adalah ahli UMNO tetapi sebenarnya selepas saya letak jawatan sebagai Perdana Menteri saya tidak dilayan sebagai ahli UMNO.

Saya tidak dibenarkan berjumpa ahli UMNO dan ahli UMNO tidak dibenarkan hadir apa-apa perhimpunan di mana saya dijemput sebagai jurucakap atau penyampai ucapan.

Menteri-Menteri yang dahulu berada dalam Kabinet saya tidak dibenarkan atau tidak berani atau tidak mahu jumpa saya lagi.

Jemputan oleh UMNO dan bukan UMNO kepada saya diarah ditarik balik oleh Mneteri Besar dan Polis.

Ramai pemimpin UMNO melepaskan kata-kata kesat kepada saya dan ada yang menyuruh saya keluar daripada UMNO walaupun mereka baru sahaja masuk UMNO. Tidak ada pemimpin UMNO yang pertahankan saya secara terbuka.

Wakil ke Perhimpunan Agong tidak dibenarkan menyuara pendapat mereka. Mulut semua orang ditutup.

Yang didengar hanyalah media arus perdana yang memuji Dato Seri Abdullah sehingga dia percaya dia begitu popular dan akan sapu bersih parti lawan dalam pilihanraya umum ke-12.

Hasilnya ialah kekalahan yang teruk bagi Barisan Nasional. Malangnya mesej yang hendak disampaikan oleh pengundi dan penyokong BN tidak dapat difahami oleh Dato Seri Abdullah.

Dia masih berkata dia menang. Ini sukar diterima oleh orang Kedah, orang Pulau Pinang, orang Perak, Selangor dan Wilayah Persekutuan.

Oleh kerana Dato Seri Abdullah buta mata dan pekak telinga dan tidak faham mesej ahli BN, oleh kerana ahli UMNO pun turut bersama, oleh kerana proses demokrasi tidak berjalan, oleh kerana UMNO yang ada sekarang bukan lagi UMNO yang ditubuhkan 62 tahun dahulu, saya berpendapat penyertaan saya sebagai ahli UMNO tidak bermakna dan tidak berguna lagi.

Justeru itu saya ingin umumkan bahawa saya sudah keluar daripada UMNO.

Saya ingin tegaskan bahawa saya bebas dan tidak menyokong mana-mana parti lawan.

Saya akan pohon untuk masuk UMNO apabila Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi sudah berhenti daripada menjadi Presiden UMNO, Pengerusi BN dan Perdana Menteri Malaysia.

ALOR STAR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has announced he is quitting Umno, in what is seen as his final push to force Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to step down as Prime Minister and party president.

Dr Mahathir also called on Umno members to join him in this radical move, which he likened to “removing gangrene” in order for the party to survive.

Abdullah, who expressed shock at Dr Mahathir’s decision, however, reiterated that he would not give in to the pressure from the former premier.

Party deputy president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak offered to meet Dr Mahathir to “discuss the decision” to quit.

Dr Mahathir has been on the warpath against Abdullah since 2004, claiming his successor was unfit for the job and has stepped up his attacks after Barisan Nasional’s disastrous results in the March 8 general election.

Photography

I hv developed greater interest in photography. As a starter, i wont be buying the expensive equipments. I met the group from Kinabalu Photography Club. They were in the ship to take some photographs — dont know if they are employed that night or invited as the official photographers. Anyway, i want to develop this interest as a hobby. I like pictures of landscape, or natural-beings. NOpe, not human. Human are NOT real when they are in pictures(listen to Family Potraits by Pink! Haha).

Yes, i will register for classes and follow the group with their ‘outing’ assignments. That will be very exciting!! My constarints will be my TIME. And i need to re-charge my energy level too(currently at low level la) …

Camera? That should be my first buy! Perhaps i could get one for myself as a gift for myself! Haha. Well, i seldom buy things for myself, u know.

Trading : Airasia 1.14 and Resorts 3.26 are moving down? When will be the time to BUY these stocks? Airasia is in news — price war with MAS. Resorts? Hmm … didnt read biz-news for a while now, so i dont know why. BUT, i know why KFC price has been appreciating!! Well, i have been taking KFC 3 times now since Jan2008. That is like 3 times more than last year! Haha

Ok ok … in the serious note, because of Dr M dropping a bombshell(frontpage headline of Sabah Times), many counters shaken by the hiccups! Arrghh … when is the war of words by our politicians will ever stop?! It is affecting the stability of the market!! KLCI will be down drastically today … will it ever recover? Or i think i should let all these bickerings to be over … be patient!!

we have a lengthy SAM meeting as the CEO is worried for the batch of students. The exams is nearing and the students are still very weak. Some plain lazy. I m in stress too as i m one topic behind scheduled. Anyway, i hope to give a few extra classes during saturdays. Hope the students will attend … Oh yes, I MINUTED this meeting … i dislike all these paper-work but i m forced to.

Normally, in my SANE state(LOL), i will NOT mention any names in my blog, except a few close friends and family, of coz. Students/colleagues come and go. But, i think i hv a special mention of this "special" student — Lee Anne.

It is a bliss to hv such a nice student — it is like "wish comes true" for teachers! Haha. Well, i do not teach Lee Anne, indirectly. Except when i was replacing Chia(i do mention Mr Chia here as he is my Maths-dept head) … i taught the class for a month. Lee Anne was taking tuition under me, anyway(since jan08, if i m not mistaken). So, i got to know her a little better …

Hmm … so polite. Nice girl, i thought. That was my first impression of her. Then, slowly i got to know that she was the group-leader too. And from All-Saint. Hmm … perhaps that school really producing ’saints’?! Hmm …

A sweet message from her made my day yesterday. All is not lost, there are still, tho fewer, SAINT students!!

Even Mag complimented on her politeness and dedication towards her works(she will do all the questions i given to her!! A rare quality!). Yes, we do wonder HOW her parents brought her up. It is surely upbringing from her dedicated parents. We are still a young parents, many things to learn. Anyway, there are still a few ‘SAINT’ students in our school(or any school, as a matter of fact).

YSC trip to Sabah Tea

Well, i hv wanted to go … but i hv many tuition classes over the weekend. Exams is next week!! Sabah Tea? Hmm … wonder what the Young Scientists will do there? It is supposed to be Science Club — lke how to create a hand-bomb and throw it at the DAP Luyang office? Haha. Or to investigate how tea-leaves could be extracted to cure some disease such as AIDS? Hmm …, that will be interesting!

Perhaps next year i will go along … to discover. Afterall, SABAH "TEH" has my surname there!

I read that we lost to China 3-2, Chong Wei beat LinDan(WOW) but the huge disappointment, again, is our so-called topstar double Koo-Tan(they were just awarded sportmans of the year days ago!!) … they lost to China top pair. Hafiz in the decider? He never really pull-out any heroic situation, anyway(except for his All-England win). Korean played their cards well and will be meeting China in the final. I did not follow Thomas Cup this time as it is "boring" — China will win both.

morning … went to do the weekly wet-marketing, bringing Mag and Er to the nearby pasar. I guess few of the aunties’ stall could recognise me by now. "lau she" … they called me. Errr … sound weird being called ‘teacher’ by aunties whom i do not teach!! Even when my students address me that way, i feel ‘awkward’? Hmm … i should be used to it after 18 years of teaching? In fact i started teaching(giving tuition) since i was form 5/6, to my neighbours’ kids. BUt, officially i started teaching in Stamford in 1990, APRIL. Currently i m into my second year with Sinaran. I do like it here … maybe just that my passion for Maths is waning … or is it teaching?

Comment : I do not disagree that academic results is VERY important to success. BUT, it all boils down to what you term SUCCESS as. If success = money, , status, power …. then, yes. MAYBE you might turn out to be a doctor/specialist or whatever highly-demanded desgination BUT even that does not guarantee money, status or power you crave for. You see, as human we will become GREEDIER. Your human/inhumane values changed as you ‘move-up’. From a naive you, you might turn into a cunning person, playing the tune according to the society, in the name of SUCCESS. Look how innocent/naive you were when you were 5 yrs old? Today you hv mastered the skills of giving excuses or blaming, no longer NATURAL(with your emotions), etc etc … what we all ADULTS condone. We hv ‘accepted’ lies or bribery as part of our lives(to certain extend). How many of us talk about HUMAN values these days? Hmm…

It is an interesting debate … i attended one by my students before … speaking about the pros/cons of EDUCATION TO THE ROAD OF SUCCESS. It is debatable. Because most PARENTS(subset of a society) seeing RESULTS is important, it makes ME very stupid if i say RESULTS is not everything. It is like we all going out and tell people that MONEY is not everything. It is important but not EVERYTHING? Tell that to anyone these days … MONEY is THE ONLY thing in their lives!! RESULTS is the ONLY THING in students lives!! When the students graduated, MONEY, STATUS and POWER take over! And the cycle continues …

To me EDUCATION is the most important part of growing up. Education starts when we were 2 yrs old … and it starts from home. Nothing to do with exams, it is all pleasure of learning. Learning process is education. Failing a Maths exams is education. Playing a volleyball game is education(winning or losing is part and parcel of playing) — how you take it and such. Can students stand up and tell me they ENJOY going to school as they find the subjects they are learning in school are interesting and widening their knowledge? I could continue to open-up a debate on how INCORRECT our society sees EDUCATION. Our students no longer enjoy learning in schools anymore(compares to 20/30 yrs ago!). Teachers NO LONGER enjoy teaching in schools. To them, it is like ‘no choice’, or it pays for my living or got longer holiday ma? Teachers stand up … tell me that you LOVE EDUCATION, you teach because you ENJOY seeing the youngsters learn some knowledge from you. You are proud and touched as today is teacher’s day — to recognise your teachings!! Arrghh … i m very doubtful about the sincerity of my UNEDUCATED society — students and teachers alike. At least i cant proudly say that i do enjoy what i m doing! Not many in working adults enjoy what they are doing, fyi. It is like not many students enjoy what they are learning from school. Or am i wrong? Hmm …

For your info, i was fascinated with Maths and Geography … so, i studied the universal Maths,  … and global world’s geography!! I do not really bother much about the syllabus(till one month before PMR/SPM/STPM exams). I studied for knowledge … while failing in my school’s exams! It is NOT wise, obviously. That is plain STUPID, many reminded me. But i think i enjoy studying more than some of my friends who get all the ’A’s?! I dont feel stress doing Maths 4hours/day?! Hehe …

—–pause—- Hmm … i better put a pause here, otherwise i could be VERY cheong-hei la. Haha

I played badly last night … 168, 200 and 154. The third game cost the team to lose two valuable points. Hmm … hope i could redeem myself next week. As we drew 2-2, the top team(KS’s) lost 0-4 to the Sukma’s youngsters. So, we should be climbing back to no 1 spot!! Yeah …
